Vibro Replacement

Vibro Replacement offers a quick and economical foundation solution. Unlike traditional piling or deep trench-fill methods, this displacement technique generates minimal spoil, providing an efficient and cost-effective alternative.

Vibro replacement is a soil improvement technique that strengthens and stabilizes weak soil by replacing it with denser materials like sand or gravel. This method provides a more stable foundation for construction, reduces settlement, and improves drainage. It is increasingly popular in situations where traditional soil improvement methods are unsuitable. By using vibro replacement, engineers can enhance soil quality, enabling the construction of safer and more efficient structures.

Vibro replacement is a ground improvement technique that can be used in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors and infrastructure, including:

  • Housing and public structures
  • Large industrial units and warehouses
  • Ports & Harbours
  • Enabling construction of embankments over weak ground for highways
  • Road and rail projects
  • Wind farms
  • Power plants

Advantages of Vibro Replacement method

In granular soils, mixed fills, and cohesive soils, bearing pressures of between 100-300kN/m2 typically achievable
Improve settlement by a factor of 1.5 to 3 on most projects
Accelerates the dissipation of excess pore water generated by loading pressures
Angle of internal friction can be increased by 5 – 10 degrees
Carbon Footprint reduced up to 60%

Soil can be improved up to the depth of 45 meters

Save up to 50% in costs compared to the expensive alternative of piling systems
Save up to 1/3 of the time compared to other methods
Increases slope stability

No disposal costs as there is minimal spoil generation

We employ two methods for vibro replacement technique, using specialized equipment engineered for effective solutions:

Bottom Feed: Ideal for very soft soils or high-water tables, when open bore is unstable. This method involves feeding stone aggregate through a tube attached to the vibroflot, supporting the bore as the column is constructed

Top Feed: Suitable for stable open bores, this method fills the bore with stone aggregate from the working platform level.

Vibro-Replacement (stone columns) is an ideal solution for enhancing soil stability, especially in sands with 10-40% fines or clays needing bearing or lateral reinforcement. It is suitable for depths up to 45m (or more, depending on crane capacity).
